Mang Engking

We were so excited when planning for a culinary tour in this place, which is called Gubug Makan “Mang Engking” in Danau Salam Kampus UI Depok. We all used to go to the same university and therefore we lived in the same area, if not the same dormitory.

We arrived just slightly before noon on a national holiday (Friday). We already knew that the restaurant was very popular in the area but we were still quite surprised to figure out that the parking lots were mostly occupied at that considerably early hour. It turned out that when we left the restaurant 2.5 hours later, there were even more people coming. One of their strength is the layout concept and building structure, which consists of the main “gubug” that could accommodate about 100 people and 21 “gubug lesehan” that would be very good for a group of people or families. It also provides impressive view and scenery of the nature: fish ponds, gardens and lake. The children would be excited to feed the fish in the fish pond.

The restaurant serves Sundanese food: freshwater fish, seafood, lalapan with sambal and other vegetables. The best one was Gurame Cobek; deep fried gurame with sour and spicy sauce. We did not think that the others were special. In terms of price, everyone shared Rp 60 K for all food & drinks that we ordered (which was a lot!).

We left the restaurant with satisfying smile because we had so much fun chatting and full rest and relax.
