Pondok Gurih Pekanbaru

I had a chance to have a breakfasting in Pondok Gurih in Pekanbaru last week during a business trip. The mixed Melayu-Minang-Jawa restaurant is located in Jl. Jendral Sudirman No. 202. The place is similar to a large traditional wooden house and several long tables are well arranged, ready to serve guests.

The specialties here are Ikan Patin, Ikan Baung and Udang Galah. Unfortunately they run out of Udang Galah, so we could only try Ikan Patin and Ikan Baung Asam Pedas. They all tasted very good in the restaurant but if you’d like to take away, I advise you to choose the grilled patin over asam pedas. Why? Because if you reheat the asam pedas, it became too salty and if you add water, you loose the original taste. Tumis Daun Pakis and Pepes Pucuk Ubi were also excellent. Pepes Pucuk Ubi is the steamed of sweet potatoe leaves, wrapped by banana leaf.

Anyway… it was one of memorable nights in Pekanbaru with Pak Arudji, Mbak Dwita, Mas Budi, Anna, Andre and Pak Sugeng; not mentioning the durian hangout afterwards. The bill… we let the most senior person pay…. :)
