Bali New Year Culinary Tour

Happy Belated New Year 2014! Let’s begin the year in the island most visited by tourists... We paid a visit to several cafes and restaurants during 5-rainy days in Bali, but I just would like to highlighted three of them.

Grilled Meat & Salad
at Mykonos
Mykonos, a Greek restaurant, was in the first rank of our list. This restaurant in Seminyak was always packed of people, but even in that circumstance, their service was still excellent. One could taste the freshness of the meat, seafood and vegetables. We had mixed grill (lamb, beef and chicken), seafood platter and the original Greek salad. Riri and Winta rated the mixed grill superb, I graded the seafood marvelous and we concluded the salad as very good with few choices of dipping sauces (we all forgot to note the name of each). Our orders were delivered to our table relatively quick and it would be very slim chance that they would miss your requests because they were recorded electronically. The color of the restaurant was dominated by blue, offering some comfort and calmness to the dinner-goers. We spent about Rp 450 K for meals and drinks and we agreed that it matched up the value of money.

Nasi Ayam Bu Oka
Another very popular dish in Bali is Nasi Ayam (Chicken Rice). A well known spot for tourists is Nasi Ayam Kedewatan Bu Mangku in Ubud, but we visited the branch in Jalan Kayu Jati No. 12, Seminyak. Chicken rice is actually a plate filled with an island of steamed white rice surrounded by heaps of chicken cooked in two different ways, sate lilit (minced fish/chicken satay grilled to perfection), telur pindang (cooked eggs), vegetables with spicy garnishing, fried nuts and not-to-be missed sambal matah (the spicy sauce). Ibu Mangku’s chicken rice was great, but we all thought that there was another one better in Nusa Dua area, namely Nasi Ayam Ibu Oka. The price was cheaper (less than Rp 20 K/serving) and the dishes were spicier compared to Ibu Mangku. It tasted good on the first bites, but then the enticing spiciness took over the whole flavor which made it the best for the spicy-food lovers.
Breakfast at Bali Bakery

Last, but not least, when breakfast is not included for your hotel room and you desire for something light and sweet, Bali Bakery is the place. They have variety of breads, pastries, cakes that are good for breakfast and they are open starting 7.30 am. Exploring it further, it is actually more than just a bakery, because it also offers a distinctive culinary array of local and Western foods such as Nasi Goreng, Sup Buntut, Grilled Salmon, Spaghetti, etc. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to have a taste of things I mentioned before, except pastries and an American breakfast set with an average spent of IDR 70 K per person.

Until the story of our next travel...
