Chicken Noodle in Kopitiam Tan

Dear my readers (if any), I have been busy and unavailable for the past few months, but I am back with all the passion for food tasting (horeeee :). The topic this time is Kopitiam, the term in which according to Wikipedia, refers to a traditional coffee shop found in Southeast Asia, patronised for meals and beverages. Kopitiam is extremely popular in Southeast Asia, particularly Singapore, Malaysia and Riau Islands. Okay, not too far for now, not talking about SouthEast Asia, but in a smaller world of Jakarta Selatan.

Crab Porridge in Kopitiam Tan

The first one is Kopitiam Tan, located in SCBD Lot 8 in Sudirman Area. One Sunday morning, we got there quite early after jogging in Senayan. Parking space was not a problem at all. There were some other visitors but not too crowded and we were seated in a sofa so it was very cozy. We started browsing the menu and found that their special menu includes Red Chicken Rice, Hainan Rice with Crispy Balacan Chicken, Kaya Toast, Crab Porridge and Beef Noodle Soup. We chose the porridge and the noodle. We did not wait too long for our order... all served while still hot. In my opinion, the porridge, though quite good, did not fulfill my expectations. There were only very thin slices of artificial crab and the crab aroma was very light. Noodle was much better and tasted a bit different than regular noodle. We guessed that was because they use variety of spices to cook the chicken topping. The noodle presentation was also very interesting as you could see in the photo.

Secondly, in another Sunday morning, we went to Bangi Kopitiam in Jalan Kyai Maja accross Rumah Sakit Pertamina Pusat (RSPP). The place was quite full at around 9 am that day so we had to park a bit outside of the parking space. There was more selections in the menu compared to Kopitiam Tan. We spent longer time to decide what we actually wanted and finally we came up with noodle - again - Wan Tan Noodle Soup and the Prawn Noodle. They both were good and we were satisfied although we needed a bit bigger portion hahahahhahahaaa... Since we were satisfied, we came back again few weeks after and tried Malacca Portugese Toast, Curry Noodle, Baba Asam Laksa, all were good! Recommended not only for breakfast, but also for lunch or dinner since it opens all day.

Mushroom Chicken Noodle

The third Kopitiam was Kedai 170 in Bandung that we visited in a rainy late afternoon in Jalan Naripan. It was noodle - again and again - with the beefballs and dumplings. The place was bright, spacious and enjoyable for hangout. The noodle was tasty and nice combination with all the condiments. You would know my favorites by now :) 

In both Kopitiam in Jakarta, price for food (noodle, rice) ranges from IDR 25K-40K, but the price in Kopitiam Tan is slightly higher. The price was much cheaper for the one in Bandung.
